What are Electronic Safe Arm Devices used for?
A safe arm device is a high-voltage, all-electronic safety device used to control the initiation sequence of a pyrotechnic train, such as on military, oil and gas, or space vehicles. Essentially, it is a safety device used to prevent the accidental arming or firing of a pyrotechnic event by eliminating system sensitivities to environmental stimuli, such as electromagnetic fields, open flames, electrostatic discharge, and stray voltages. It is commonly used on missile and launch vehicle platforms to prevent the main charge explosive from initiating accidentally before aiming while doubling as a missile safety and arming device, providing controlled initiation capabilities once all firing conditions have been met.
What types of Safe and Arm Devices do you offer?
Excelitas is the leading provider of MIL-STD-1316 compliant, safe arm device solutions designed to meet the safety and reliability requirements of both legacy and next-generation missiles and munitions. Currently, we offer a completely customizable line of Firing Modules that provide remote detonation functionalities to ensure the complete safety of personnel during launch sequences and other applications where multiple points of energetic transfer are required.
What are the applications of Safe and Arm Devices?
A safe and arm device is widely used in applications that call for the safe initiation of critical events. In such systems, reliability is a crucial factor in determining the success of the mission while ensuring the safety of everyone involved. Potential applications include operations involving solid rocket motors, flight termination, and other events typically conducted on tactical missile and launch vehicle platforms.
Do you offer custom Safe and Arm solutions?
Absolutely! Excelitas provides complete customizability in our Firing Modules to meet specific customer requirements as a leader in missile safety and arming device solutions. Our firing modules can be designed and manufactured as over-voltage or command-to-fire devices, depending on the specific application. They can also be equipped with firing delay timers for complete safety. Additionally, all Excelitas firing modules are designed to work with our line of Low-Energy Exploding-Foil Initiators, known as Blue ChipĀ® detonators. Whatever your requirements may be, you may communicate them with us, and we will make sure to accommodate your requests in our design.
