What are the different uses of Laser Warning Detectors?
A laser warning detector is a warning system used for passive defense in military applications. Their main purpose is to detect, analyze, and locate the direction of laser emissions within the 0.5 - 1.65 µm wavelength range.
These systems typically consist of three subsystems, each with its own functions. The optical subsystem focuses and directs the incident laser beam radiation in order to transmit it toward the detector. Inside the detection subsystem, the optical system is transduced into a digital signal, which is then processed by the processor subsystem.
This signal contains the characteristics of the laser radiation, which triggers a warning output and an appropriate countermeasure against laser-hostile threats. Depending on the characteristics, the system will determine whether it’s coming from a safe source or not.
